J.D. Barksdale, 87, US Veteran, retired pilot and husband of the former Jean Hatcher of the Pine Grove Community in Tippah County , passed away April 16, 2016 in Colleyville, Texas. Graveside Services for Mr. Barksdale will be at 1 p.m. Thursday April 21 in the Pine Grove Cemetery with visitation 30 minutes before services. The Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born February 11, 1929 in Union Church, MS to the late Everett Lee and Myra Varnado Barksdale. A Baptist, Mr. Barksdale was a pilot serving his country in the United States Air Force, and then a pilot for Delta Airlines for 33 years, where he retired as a Captain. Mr. Barksdale is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Barksdale Watson (Rick) , grandsons, Taylor and Tanner Watson all of Colleyville, TX, a sister, Doris Lassetter of Tuscaloosa, AL, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Hatcher Barksdale preceded him in death. The family request memorials in J.D.'s memory to Alzheimer's Association,-North Central Texas Chapter, 2630 West Freeway #100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
