HAMMOND, Ind. – John Edward Blackman, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Kindred Acute Care Hospital in Hammond, Ind., after a long illness. He was a Vietnam War veteran and retired Chicago Police Officer. He moved to Tupelo in 1999 and was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his devotion to God and family and his love of fishing.

His marriage to Dr. Charlotte A. Davis Blackman produced two children. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Jose) Moreno of Chicago and Dawn (Derrick) Harris of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren; one sister, Frances (Isaac) Starks; two brothers, David and Phillip (Lisa) Blackman; nine nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Beth Eden Baptist Church in Chicago.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Lakeview Baptist Church, 830 Shumacola Trail, Tupelo, MS 38801, in his honor.
