BLUE MOUNTAIN – Larry Joe Akins, 64, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born March 28, 1949, to Oliver and Mary Agnes Mesinger Akins in Blue Mountain. He was manager of A&W Rentals in New Albany, and a member of Academy Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Academy Baptist Church in Blue Mountain, with Bro. Earl Barron, Bro. Wayne Cobb and Bro. Lyndle Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Mountain Cemetery with Military Honors. McBride Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bryant Akins of Blue Mountain; a son, Ken Akins (Jo Beth) of Ripley; two grandsons, Kinnon and Benjamin Akins of Ripley; a sister, Pat Dyer (Stanley) of Monroe, Ga.; three brothers, David Akins (Pam), Richard Akins (Emily), both of Blue Mountain, Randy White (Madonna) of New Albany; a sister-in-law, Kay ""Molly"" Akins of Ripley; two special cousins, Ethlene Barkley (Terry) and Carolyn Culver (Donald), both of Ripley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Sammie Akins.
Pallbearers will be Jerrold Akins, Mark Akins, Matt Akins, Sean Akins, Jesse Jones, Hall Miskelly, Marty Miskelly and Will White.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Academy Baptist Church.
