ABERDEEN – Roger Acker Cooperwood, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. He served the community in several capacities. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a former police officer of the Aberdeen Police Department and a former alderman for the city of Aberdeen. He owned and operated Central Gulf Service Station on Commerce Street for many years.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. Benjamin Wax officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Opal Walker of Aberdeen; four nephews, Winston Cooperwood (Chalice) of Maumee, Ohio, Lemon Jones of Detroit, Mich., Vincent Evans (Marion) and Maurice Evans (Carrie), both of Aberdeen; two nieces, Winiford Barno and Faye Davis of Detroit, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Lottie Green of Jackson; two stepgrandchildren, Tamoria and Jamel; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, all of Jackson.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose at the church from noon to service time Monday
