ATHENS COMMUNITY – Sank Edward Owen, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. He was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Monroe County to Sank Owen and Louie Howell Owen. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He graduated from Aberdeen High School, attended Mississippi State University and received a master's degree from George Peabody/Vanderbilt University. He retired as a teacher and principal after 31 years of service. He also was an avid supporter of the Republican Party and a veteran of the Korean War.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel with Bro. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will be in Howell Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include Tracy and Wendy Callick of Aberdeen; five cousins, Ruby Cole of Aberdeen, Shirley Pruitt (Billy) of Aberdeen, Bobby Hollingsworth (Tula) of Aberdeen, Thomas Mize (Lynne) of Tupelo and Myrtle Owen Grubbs of Tupelo; and a host of other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Camp, Shawn Gore, Will Mize, Jimmy Lee Lusk, Wesley Morgan and Bo Hill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
