Jerry Ray Cullum

Obituary Condolences

BLUE SPRINGS – On July 30, 2014, Jerry took his last earthly breath to go and join the love of his life, Kay, who had only left him on June 29, 2014. Jeffy Kay Cullum went ahead to prepare their heavenly home together. Thirty-six years on earth and an eternity in heaven. Jerry joined the Navy in 1959 and left the service with an honorable discharge in 1964. After a couple of marriages, he met the love of his life. In their early years, they moved around with his job in the oil fields. He was a certified technician. After his retirement, he and Kay moved to Myrtle to be close to their families. He started his third career, driving a truck. He drove for Cooper Truck Lines and Massengill Trucking. He and Kay did this for almost 20 years. From there Jerry retired again to stay at home and take care of his wife, as her health declined. After becoming weakened himself, Kay moved to Sunshine Nursing Home in Pontotoc, where he visited her everyday as long as his health permitted. Three weeks before his soulmate passed away he was diagnosed with cancer. Their desire to remain together on earth was shattered. Kay's last words to him were ""I'll be waiting on you."" Just 31 days later, he joined her for their last eternal walk.
Jerry leaves behind a daughter, Cathy Givens of Atoka, Tenn.; one son, Ray Cullum of Covington, Tenn.; three sisters, Mona Ritenour of Memphis, Sylvia Tarzanin of West Chester, Pa., and Jo Cullum of Cordova, Tenn.; one brother, Sydney Cullum of Atoka, Tenn.; his caregiver, Brenda Whiteside; several nieces, nephews, as well as several grandchildren. He also leaves his four-legged companion, CoCo. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeffy Kay Cullum; parents, C.H. Cullum Jr. and Mary Bryd Cullum; sisters, Kay Jelly and Phyllis Milosha.
There will be no services. A celebration of their lives will be through the memories left behind. Serenity Funeral Home is assisting the family.
