HICKORY FLAT – Lawanda Dickerson Moorehead, 91, died in her home Sunday, March 9, 2014, surrounded by friends and family. A lifetime resident of Hickory Flat, she has long served and shall continue to serve as an uplifting example of the strength and of the grace that arises when steadfast resolve is fortified with discipline, dignity, family and faith.

Always motivated and endlessly inspired, Mrs. Moorehead earned esteem throughout her many endeavors in life. An ideal homemaker, a loving wife, a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a true matriarch who led with wise foresight, determined actions and unwavering commitment. Mrs. Moorehead was a devout Christian and an active member of First United Methodist Church of Hickory Flat where she served as the organist for 55 years. Her fastidious work ethic was recognized over her 24-year tenure as the head bookkeeper at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Holly springs, and she was the business manager for more than 20 years of the family-owned pallet company, Moorehead Industries Inc. In addition, she was an extensive world-traveler, a skilled gardener, an accomplished pianist, an avid artist, a notable cook, an animal advocate as well as a philanthropist. She was a blessing to all.
Mrs. Moorehead was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Eulan Gay Moorehead of Hickory Flat, and her mother, Mary Bernice Dickerson of Hickory Flat. She is survived by two sons, Robert Watson Moorehead (Delores) of Wellington, Ohio, and Eulan Stanley Moorehead of Seabrook, Texas; three grandchildren, Marcus (Katherine), Tracy, and Kimberly Moorehead; and two great- grandchildren, Ashleigh and Kaela Moorehead.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at United Funeral Service in New Albany.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the funeral home and the adjoining Vista Memorial Park. The Rev. Brownie Tohill will preside; organist will be Zana McBride. Pallbearers will be Sid Ayres, Warner Bradford, Glen Cossitt, Johnny Elliott, Marcus Moorehead and Don Taylor.
A memorial gathering for Mrs. Moorehead will be at the Hickory Flat United Methodist Church immediately following the services.
