PLANTERSVILLE – John Louis Mabry, 75, was born on June 12, 1938 in Plantersville to the late Luther and Lorine Mabry.

John accepted Christ at an early age and was as a dedicated deacon at Jerusalem M.B. Church in Nettleton until he peacefully passed on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
An adoring father, brother and friend, John retired as a sergeant after 25 years of service with the Tupelo Police Department. John continued his service to the community as a child dropout prevention officer with Tupelo Public Schools. He was also a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge 202-A in Saltillo.
He is survived by his children, Connie Norwood of Tupelo, Sylvia Mayhorn (Steve) of Memphis, Jewel Bumphis (Terry) of Tupelo, John Mabry (Melissa) of Tupelo, Pamela D. Mabry of Tupelo, Patina Mabry-Stiff (Rashida) of Los Angeles, Calif.; his sisters, Myrtle Westmoreland (Arthur) of Tupelo, Isolene Littleton (Cleveland) of St. Louis, Mo., Lavern Miller (Roy) of Tupelo, Doris Spiller (Ivory) of St. Louis, Mo.; his brother, Willie Roy (Pamela) Mabry of Dorsey; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and an abundance of family members and friends.
His body will lie in state at Holland Funeral Directors today, May 29, from noon to 5 p.m. with family hour from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Verona officiated by Pastor Craig Fields. Interment will follow at Jerusalem M.B. Church in Nettleton.
