AMORY – Alonzo Perkins Jr., 83, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Golden Living Health Care Center. He was born on March 21, 1931, in Itawamba County, a son of the late Alonzo Perkins Sr. and Mammie Maemma Allen. He was a member of New Chapel CME Church, and he attended school at New Chapel. He worked in a sawmill in Itawamba County.He loved to sing, visit family and friends, enjoyed fishing, and working in the garden.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 31, at New Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Dr. Luther Minor officiating. Burial will follow in New Chapel Cemetery. Darden and Sons Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by a very special friend for many years, Costella Whitfield of Amory; a sister-in-law, Dorothy McKinney of Fulton; one niece, Ginie (Adrian) Garth of Aberdeen; three nephews, Willie McKinney of Florida, Kenneth (Jackie) McKinney of Bartlett, Tenn., and Jerry McKinney of Fulton; four great-nieces; and two great-great-nieces.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Stacy McKinney.
The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service time today at the church.
