DETROIT, Mich. – Mrs Genevieve Sargent Sims died on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Detroit, Mich. She was born on May 23, 1920, in Pleasant Grove to the late Troy and Aimee Sargent. She was united with her husband, Ulysses Sims on Aug. 24,1942. They were blessed with two children, a son, Roosevelt Sims; and a daughter, Janet Sims.

Genevieve Sims graduated from Rust College in Holly Springs and started her teaching career at Pleasant Grove School in Itawamba County. She taught at Nettleton Line High School, then the name was later changed to Sims High School. She was a member of Pleasant Grove UMC and later on united with Palestine UMC where she served as a faithful member until her health fail. She served on the Tupelo District Laity Board, and she also served on the United Methodist Women Committees and various other church committees. She was an excellent seamstress for many people, and she enjoyed it .
Services will be 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, 2014, at Palestine UM Church. Rev. Barnes will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Survivors include her son, Roosevelt (Joyce) Sims of Oak Park, Mich.; her daughter, Janet Sims of Detroit, Mich.; three granddaughters, Marilyn Smith of Tupelo, Stephanie (Darryl) of Auburn Hills, Mich. and Dominique King of Detroit, Mich.; three grandsons, Adrian (Diane) King, Ryan (Katherine) Sims, both of Southfield, Mich. and Michael Sims of Oak Park, Mich.; and a host of great-grands.
