Bill Edward Owen, age 78, died with family nearby, at his home in Milton, Florida on May 13, 2014. Bill Owen was born on November 5, 1936, to James and Rebecca Owen in Algoma, MS. He was the second oldest of 5 children. He graduated from Algoma High School and attended Itawamba Junior College on a basketball scholarship. He then joined the Navy and served 4 years. His interests were family, history, genealogy, basketball, football, and carpentry.

During his lifetime, he worked at many jobs, starting as a newspaper delivery boy and finally retiring after 25 years as an insurance underwriter for Federated Insurance Co. He enjoyed writing family history, camping, river rafting, home remodeling, and laughing and telling stories to and with friends and family. He recently published a novella, For Love of Elvira, which was a lifelong dream. He had a great laugh and always saw the best in people. He was a faithful member of Bagdad United Methodist Church in Bagdad, Florida where a memorial service was held on May 17, 2014.
Bill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy Craigmile Owen, two daughters, LeAnn (Scott) Martin and Cathy (Steve) Walters and 2 stepsons Todd (Connie) Craigmile and Jeff (Sue) Craigmile along with 11 grandchildren: Jessica and Johnnie Yates, Shepard and Rebecca Martin, and Caitlin, Glennis, and Jay Walters, Rachel, Nicole, Justin, Monica and Phillip Craigmile. He has three brothers: Jim (Chris) Owen, Kenneth (Joice) Owen, and Glen (Shannon) Owen, and one sister, Janet (Bill) Rackley, Also, he left behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents and one daughter, Jennifer (Jay) Yates.
The ashes will be interned at Old Monroe Cemetery in Algoma, Mississippi on August 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
