TUPELO – Georgia Earline Gill Baker passed away on August 1, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family.

A member of Palmetto C.M.E. Church, she was once served on the Trustee Board, Stewardess Board and the Kitchen Committee. She was retired as the director of Palmetto Daycare Center for 27 years. She was a devoted mother, aunt and grandparent, who enjoyed cooking for her grandchildren and enjoyed working in her garden.
Her Life Celebration Service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at Palmetto C.M.E. Church with Elder Leo M. Wright officiating. Grayson-Porter's Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Nick) Shields of Tupelo; two sisters, Heraben Moore and Ora (Bernard) Brantley, all of Chicago; three grandchildren, Precyda (David) Owens of Tupelo, Dr. Portia (Jermaine) Grayson Williams and Crystal Grayson of Atlanta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Grayson, Diamond Sharpe and Danielle Owens of Tupelo, and Grayson Murray of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lee and Mamie Edwards Gill, and one sister, Josephine Witherspoon.
Viewing will be today at 4 p.m. with family and friends hour from 6 until 7 p.m. at J.W. Porter's Chapel. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service on Thursday.
