OKOLONA – Mrs. Birdie Mae Barnett Franks, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Shearer Richardson Memorial Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born in Lee County on March 5, 1932, to Robert and Annie Crosby Thach. Birdie worked for Futorian Furniture Manufacturing in Okolona, retiring as an inspector after 38 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed flowers, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Bethany Church of God of Prophecy, Highway 32 West of Okolona, with Bro. Edward Pharr and Bro. Herman Gray officiating. Burial will follow in East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to service time, all at the church. Holland Funeral Directors Okolona Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ora Franks, whom she married June 6, 1992; her children, Ann Grant of Richmond, Ky., Brenda Jones (Steve) of Nesbit, Roger Barnett (Opal) of Amory and Carolyn Barnett of Pontotoc; six stepchildren, Sarah Aileen Wells (Bob) of Ackerman, Steve Barnett of Fulton, Ted Barnett of Houlka, Larry Franks (Barbara), Darrell Franks and Deloris Anderson, all of Okolona; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Ann Thompson Ivy (Cecil) of the Palmetto community; three brothers, Robert Crosby Jr. of Deer Park, Texas, John Crosby of Tupelo and Larry Crosby (Judy) of Mooreville. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Sweat, and a son, Jeffery Barnett.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and her great-grandsons, John Paul Lucas, Joey Lucas, Michael Jones, Daniel Jones, Chase Jones, Isaiah Dye, Tristan McGloflin, Jeffery McGloflin, Levi Gonzalez and Noah Gonzalez.
