1934 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
TUPELO – Raymond Lamar McCoy, 79, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014, at Darlington Oaks in Verona after an extended illness. He was born August 24, 1934, in Tupelo to the late William Albert McCoy and Ollie Talitha Baker McCoy. He was raised in East Tupelo, graduated from Tupelo High School and married Peggy Sue Palmer. He was an active member and served as a deacon at East Heights Baptist Church. He retired from Kysor Warren as a field service supervisor. He enjoyed singing (Sportsmen Quartet), camping, fishing, cooking (champion blue biscuit maker, fried okra connoisseur) and working as a volunteer at Central Hills Christian Camp.
A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014, in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Tim Brown officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by his nephew, Dr. Randy McCoy. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be today from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Sue Palmer McCoy of Tupelo whom he married on December 23, 1953; three daughters, Margo Cathlene Reynolds (Bobby) of Greensboro, Ga., Pamela Kay Bankston (Bob) of Saltillo, Miss. and Kimberly Ann Pannell (Phillip) of Verona, Miss.; eight grandchildren, Kiley Reynolds (Amy), Will West, John West, Jessica Grammer (Mason), Dylan Reynolds, Aaron Pannell, MacKenzie Reynolds and Faith Pannell; and three great-grandchildren, Chris Grammer, Blakely Reynolds and Kalem Grammer.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by three brothers, Elvis McCoy, Noel McCoy, J.W. McCoy; and one sister, Lucille McCoy Bass.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Randy McCoy, Mac McCoy, Tommy McCoy, Phillip McCoy, David McCoy, Mickey McCoy, Neal McCoy and Guy McCoy.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Jimmy ""Cotton"" McCoy, Tim McCoy, Terry McCoy, Jerry McCoy and Frankie McCoy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to East Heights Baptist Church, 205 Lake Street, Tupelo, MS 38804.
