ABERDEEN – Bessie Mae Bailey Whitfield, 90, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Pioneer Hospital in Aberdeen. She was born in the Egypt community on September 23, 1923, to the late Eugene Bailey and Lisa Jane Fields.

She was a member of Zion Temple Church of God of Prophecy, where she served as the Mother of the Church. She'll be remembered for her radio broadcasts, love for her children and grandchildren, and open heart to all who crossed her path.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Louise Key, Lisa Jones, Bessie Gathings (Nathaniel), Emma Spratt and Geneva Stewart; sons, Willie Earl Whitfield, Benjamin Whitfield (Mamie) Willie C. Whitfield (Doris), Jacob Whitfield (Virginia) and James Whitfield; stepsons, Carnell Gathings, David Gathings, Willie Ed Gathings and Terry McAllister, all of Aberdeen; sisters, Mary Moton of Aberdeen, Minerva Grayson of St. Louis, Mo., Warzella Gillespie of Okolona, Katherine Yount (Dan), Evelyn Townsend, Ollie Jetter; brothers, Eugene Bailey Jr. (Callie), Willie C. Bailey, Warren Bailey (Patricia), all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Harlin Bailey (Emma), William E. Bailey (Naomi) and Lennon Bailey, all of Okolona; 54 grandchildren and 101 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Zion Springs M.B. Church in Okolona at 2 p.m. with Bishop J.A. Green officiating, the Rev. Nollen Elzie, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home of Okolona is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be today, August 29, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home chapel and a wake,will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Outreach in Okolona.
