Kerchner, Eula  
Eula Mae Kerchner Mrs. Eula Mae Parris Kerchner, age 90, passed peacefully in the company of her daughters, at her home Thursday, May 21, 2015. She was born in Byrdstown, TN and was the daughter of Cosby and Susan Parris. She is survived by her children, Marie Reynolds and husband Richard of Colorado, Carol Kerchener and Thomas Mount, both of Smyrna; two grandchildren, Harold Reynolds and wife Ashley of Washington, Katherine Shirley and husband Michael of Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Lauryn and Payton Shirley, Ava and Aden Reynolds. Mrs. Kerchner was one of fourteen siblings, seven of which have preceded her in death. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" in an aircraft assembly plant in Ohio during WWII. She then moved to St. Louis where she met Edward C. Kerchner, and they married June 7, 1947. While Mr. Kerchner was in the Air Force, they lived in many locations from Waltham, MA to Honolulu, HI, and after he retired from the Air Force in 1964, they lived in Murfreesboro and ultimately settled in Smyrna. Mrs. Kerchner was an avid gardener, loved working in her yard, and ultimately dug a pond by hand in the back yard. She retired from Middle Tennessee State University Library where she worked in the Periodical Department. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Edward C. Kerchner in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 1 p.m., at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Visitation will be Friday, May 29, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Online guestbook is available at www.woodfinchapel.com

Leonard, Betty  
Mrs. Betty Joy Leonard Mrs. Betty Joy Leonard, age 72 of Murfreesboro, TN, died on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Community Care of Rutherford County. She was a native of Akron, OH and was the only child of John Thomas and Kathrine Schilling Cummings. Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Daniel Leonard, Sr., in March, 2015. Mrs. Leonard is survived by her daughter, Kelly Leonard of Murfreesboro; two sons, Dan Leonard and his wife Leslie of Franklin, TN, and John Leonard and his wife Elana of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren, Patrick, John, Erin and Chris Leonard. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with Father Jacob Dio officiating. Mrs. Leonard was a 1961 graduate of North High School in Akron, OH. She worked for United City Gas which later became Atmos Energy for 27 years. Mrs. Leonard also worked for Harvey's Department Store in Murfreesboro. Lewis, Georgene  
Georgene Lewis Georgene Winnell Lewis, age 78, passed away May 25, 2015 at Northside Health Care. She was a native of New Jersey and Connecticut and has lived in Rutherford County the last four years. Georgene was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Isabell Winnell; husband, James H. Lewis. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette (Tony Huddleston) Thomson of Murfreesboro, Laurie K. (Ed) Brozek of Connecticut, Pamela J. Rossi of Florida, Melissa A. (Darren) Martens of Florida; grandchildren, Gretchen, Clifton, Briana, Alexia, John, Jessica, Trevor, Alicia, Andrew; four great grandchildren. Logsdon, Mary Joyce Olsen  
Mary Joyce Olson Logsdon Mary Joyce Olson Logsdon, age 95 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015. A native of Wausa, NE, she was the daughter of Peter and Alma Lundgren Olson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Logsdon. Mrs. Logsdon is survived by her daughter, Jane Johnston of Murfreesboro, TN; son, Richard "Rick" Logsdon and his wife Mary of Ashland, MO; grandchildren, Katie Peek and her husband Scott of Murfreesboro, TN, Caleb Logsdon and his wife Kayla of Marthasville, MO; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Mary Cecelia Peek of Murfreesboro, TN; brother, W. P. Olson of Winner, SD. A graveside service and burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA at a later date. Verna Rae Shaw Mershon Verna Rae Shaw Mershon, age 79 of Murfreesboro, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2015. She was a native of Portsmouth, OH, and the daughter of the late Morris and Chloe Vaughters Shaw. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rev. Cleve Smith and Rev. Phil Leach will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Mrs. Mershon is survived by her husband, Barry K. Mershon, Sr.; one son, Barry K. Mershon, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Kimberly Smith and her husband Cleve of Lincoln, NE, and Deborah Leach and her husband Phillip of Colorado Springs, CO; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Mershon was a member of Believers' Chapel, a retired executive secretary, pastor's wife and homemaker. Mlekush, Matt  
Capt. Matt C. Mlekush, USN (Ret.) Captain Matt C. Mlekush, USN (Ret.), age 83 of Murfreesboro, died May 27, 2015. He was a native of Santa Monica, CA, and a son of the late Matt and Lila Mlekush. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ellen Marie Kouma Mlekush; children, Diane Cothern and her husband Douglas of Murfreesboro; Matthew Mlekush and his wife Cindy of Antioch, CA; Denise Shields and her husband Scott of Virginia Beach, VA; Dana Taylor and her husband Jim of Morrisville, NC, and Debra Cooke of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Jeremy, Andrea, and Bethany Cothern; Akasha, Dionna, and Jared Mlekush and Seth and Lauren Shields; a great-grandson, Edward Douglas Cothern; and a host of loving family and friends. Captain Mlekush was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, completed post-graduate work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and received his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His service included the Vietnam War from 1965-66 and he later retired in 1985 from the United States Navy with the rank of Captain after thirty-five years of service. After retirement, he worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the physical plant. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 4 p.m. until the time of a Memorial service with Military Honors beginning at 5 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
