Charlene Bentley Key

Charlene Bentley Key, age 72 of Lebanon, February 1, 2013. Born August 14, 1940, in Wilson County, she is the daughter of the late John H. and Portia Simms Bentley. She was a 1958 graduate of Lebanon High School. She received a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science at Middle Tennessee State University. She taught mathematics at Cumberland University in Lebanon.

She retired to be a full time at home mother for her daughter and enjoyed twelve years of school activities with her. She returned to teaching while receiving an Educator Doctoral Specialist Degree at MTSU being a mathematics professor at MTSU for ten years prior to retiring. She was a charter member of West Haven Baptist Church.

She was a member of the D.A.M.E.S. of Murfreesboro and had held numerous leadership positions in local and county Home Demonstration Clubs. She also had served as National Alumni President of the MTSU Alumni Association. She helped design and build their dream home on her family century farm which had been in her family since 1886. The new home was and remains her pride and joy.

Survived by her husband, Richard C. Key, whom she married on November 28, 1964; daughter, Jan Key Marks and her husband Greg of Mount Juliet; two granddaughters, Madison Rose Marks and Amelia Grace Marks; and a brother, William H. Bentley of Lebanon.

Her remains rest at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Lebanon, where the family will receive friends Monday 3-8 p.m. Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at West Haven Baptist Church, 5860 Lebanon Road, Lebanon, with Dr. Jonathan Richerson and Dr. Ray Cleek officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers: members of the D.A.M.E.S. of Murfreesboro and Home Demonstration Club of Lebanon. Active Pallbearers: Mickey Bentley, Marty Bentley, Brian Montgomery, Corky Cross, Sam Smith, Jack Bell, Bill Erwin, Mark Thorne, and Wayne Dodd. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Visitation Tuesday after 10 a.m. at the church.
