Oletha Marie Baxter Baldwin
Oletha Marie Baxter Baldwin, age 84 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away on July 29, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family after a short illness. She is a native of Oklahoma but lived in Murfreesboro since 1959.
Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by her parents, Nelda Marie Hillman Baxter and Arthur Dennison Baxter of Greeley, CO. She was born September 8, 1926 in Waynoka, OK and spent her early years in Harman, OK. As a young girl, her family moved from Oklahoma to Greeley, CO during the great dust storms of the early 1930's. She graduated from Greeley High School, now Greeley Central High School, in 1945. On September 5, 1948, she married Harold LeRoy Baldwin, after he returned from serving in the United States Navy during World War II, at the First Christian Church in Greeley. Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin moved to Pueblo, CO in 1951 with her infant daughter. She gave birth to her second daughter in Pueblo. While in Pueblo, she served as the President of the George Washington Elementary School Parents and Teachers' Association.
In 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin and their two daughters moved to Murfreesboro when her husband accepted a teaching position at Middle Tennessee State College. She attended classes at the University while also being active in the community. She was a room mother at Reeves-Rogers Elementary School, President of the Dames Club, and Secretary of the Murfreesboro Central High School Marching Band Boosters Club. After raising her two children, Mrs. Baldwin was employed at Middle Tennessee State University in 1971 and retired after twenty years of service in 1991.
Mrs. Baldwin is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harold LeRoy Baldwin of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Sandra Deyo (Ray) of LaGrange, GA and Jill Canono (Manna) of Tallahassee, FL; two grandchildren, Joshua Adam May (Ashley) of Dallas, GA and Ashley Lauren May Seman (DJ) of Concord, GA; one great grandchild, Daniel John Seman III (Trey); her brother, Virgil Newton Baxter (Billie) of Greeley, CO; niece, Pamela Gayle Baxter Neville; brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Helen Hergenreder of Greeley, CO; nephew Richard Hergenreder (Gayle) of Avada, CO; niece, Linda White (Keith)of Windsor, CO.
She was an excellent cook and amassed a collection of over 400 cookbooks from their travels around the world. Mrs. Baldwin also was a superior seamstress as evidenced by the garments she made for her daughters and items for her home.
