Winston Williams Bowling, age 89 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on October 13, 2013.

He was born in Berea, KY to Floyd Bowling, a native of KY, and Gladys Williams Bowling, a piano teacher from England. Winston spent most of his childhood in Big Creek, KY and graduated from Berea High School, a boarding school associated with Berea College.

At age 18, he enlisted in the army and served in Europe during World War II with the Headquarters 3261 Signal Corp of the 65th Signal Battalion. He was decorated with two bronze stars. For many years he participated in annual army reunions and compiled newsletters, which are now housed in the Albert Gore Research Center at MTSU, and in The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, LA. After the war, Winston earned his undergraduate degree from Berea College and a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University. In June 1962, he purchased a paint store in Murfreesboro from J.T. Hoover and retained the name Hoover Paint Store. He operated this store with his beloved wife, Billie Jo, until passing the operations to his son, Tim.

Winston is survived by Billie Jo Welch Bowling, his wife and love of his life for over 55 years; his sons, Raymond (Susan) of Brentwood, TN, Tim (Margaret) of Murfreesboro, TN, John (Kim) of Jacksonville, FL; and his grandchildren, Laura, Michael and Rachel of Brentwood, TN, Thomas, Amy, and Morgan of Murfreesboro, TN, and Sawyer and Clark of Jacksonville, FL.

Winston was an amazing family man of strong faith and unquestionable integrity. He enjoyed serving customers, flying airplanes, and hosting various hiking groups on the trails he created and maintained on the family farm near Monterey, TN. He was a faithful member of North Boulevard Church of Christ for over 50 years. Winston was a great role model for his children and grandchildren, full of gratitude and humility. He was a blessing to so many.
