Doris Milligan

Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Milligan, age 76 of Monterey, was held 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Monterey First United Methodist Church. Pastor James C. Johnson, Jr. and Rev. Robert Austin Niles officiated. Interment followed in Welch Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Speck, Kevin Ray, Joey Ray, Johnny Murphy, Tim Collins and Trenton Collins.

Mrs. Milligan died Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2011 at Standing Stone Care and Rehab Center in Monterey.

Mrs. Milligan was born June 7, 1934 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Dewey Jackson and Juanita Verble Ray.

She was a member of Monterey First United Methodist Church. She attended Shady Grove Elementary School and was a 1952 graduate of Monterey High School.

She began her career as an administrative assistant at the former Monterey Hospital and worked at LBJ&C in Monterey for over 20 years. She owned and operated Monterey Flower Shop for several years and she and her late husband operated Milligan's Texaco. Following her retirement, she was a funeral assistant at Horner Funeral Home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, long-time Monterey Fire Chief Richard "Dickie" Milligan.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Keelan and Marcy Milligan of Monterey, Lloyd and Pam Milligan; two grandchildren, Nicole and Cody Milligan all of Murfreesboro; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Bill Speck of Lafayette, TN; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Carol Ray of Battle Creek, MI, James and Jane Ray of Monterey; special cousin and caregiver, Alma Lee Tudor; dear friends, Danny and Barbara Allen; and her Monterey First United Methodist Church Family.
