Briley Imogene Queen Adcock, age 88 of Murfreesboro, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home, Murfreesboro, TN.
Briley was a native of Wayne County, TN and graduated from Wayne County High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State College, Murfreesboro, in Library Science, and received her Master's Degree from the George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville.
She was married for 61 years to Charles Lester Adcock, who retired from an extinguished career in the U S Air Force. Briley accompanied Charles when he served two tours in Japan and a tour in Alaska. While in Japan, she worked at the Japan Library Depot, Gifu Auxiliary Airfield.
Upon returning to Tennessee, she continued a career outside the house as head librarian at Murfreesboro's Linebaugh Public Library for 32 years before retiring in 1994. Briley loved reading books and enjoyed traveling. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Adcock was preceded in death by her parents, Col. Briley and Pauline Edwards Queen; husband, Charles Lester Adcock and brothers, Charles Edward Queen and Douglas Queen.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Glendon Queen (Dorla), Florence, AL; sister-in-law, Doreen Jernigan, Manchester, TN; several nieces and a nephew.
Visitation with the family will be 9-10 a.m. Friday, November 30th at Jennings and Ayers Chapel, Murfreesboro, followed by the service at 10 a.m., with Rev. Dewey Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family appreciates the care and attention provided by the nursing and support staff at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home.
