Charley Stephen "Steve" Blankenship
Charley Stephen "Steve"Blankenship, age 82, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was a native of Porterfield and a life long resident of Halls Hill Pike. He was a farmer who milked cows for 65 years. Steve graduated from Cannon County High School in 1949 then attended MTSC for two years. He was on the advisory board for Farm Credit Mid-America for 25 plus years. He was a lifetime member of the order of Golden Rule for Young Farmers and Homemakers, an active member of the Rutherford County Historical Society and a member of the Lascassas Methodist Church.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; Carl Stacy and May Belle Blankenship and sister, Peggy Belle Blankenship. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nelly M. Blankenship of Murfreesboro, daughter, Helen Rosamond Blankenship of Murfreesboro, son, Donald Steve Blankenship of Murfeesboro, sister and Ada B. Norfleet of Nashville and numerous cousins.
Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2014. A Wake/Service will be held for Steve following visitation at 7:30 P.M. in Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Jim Newman officiating. Henry Blankenship, Jessie Vaughn, Edwin Norfleet, Bobby Russell, Don Mitchell, Gary Simpson, Tim Jones, Larry McElrory, Frank Maynard and Robert Peay will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
