Funeral services for Mr. Earl Simmons, age 70 of Manchester, will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Mike Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Simmons Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, February 17th at the funeral home.
Mr. Simmons passed away on Wednesday, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Mr. Simmons was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late Horace and Roberta Williams Simmons. He was a mobile home service technician and a retired Baptist minister, having his Master's in Bible Theology. His hobbies included raising poultry and homing pigeons, fishing, camping, and hunting.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was also preceded in death by one son, Randall Simmons.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Simmons; two sons, Donny (Stephanie) Mathis of Murfreesboro and Ricky Earl (Angel) Simmons of Fort Bragg, NC; three daughters, Mae (Ray) McAfee and Barbara Cagle, both of Manchester, and Trish (Daniel) Porter of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Robert Simmons of Niles, MI and Dale Simmons of Tullahoma; two sisters, Elizabeth Bowers of Manchester and Sue Langford of Tullahoma; six grandchildren, Richard (Angela) Jarrell, Tony (Christine) Jarrell, Joshua Mathis, Ricky Earl "Res" Simmons, Katie Simmons and Ashley Simmons; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Jarrell and Kira Jarrell; step grandchildren, Tina Taylor McAfee, Tammie Cunningham, Camilla (Tim) Neal, Pam Sain, Gary Cagle and Jeff Cagle; step great-grandchildren, Matt Henderson, Jesse Crosslin, Jake Crosslin, Carlee Vincent, Savannah Vincent, Chasity Sain, Austin Cagle and Gary Cagle, Jr.; and two adopted grandchildren, Brady Gaines and Shynia Gaines.
The family would like to thank the St. Thomas Hospital staff for their compassionate care for the past two weeks.
