James Dickens "J.D." Bennett, age 86 of Murfreesboro, passed away on December 27, 2012 at Alvin C. York Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County and served in the United States Army during World War II. J.D. was a member of Haynes Chapel United Methodist Church and retired from Samsonite.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Bennett and Hazel McKnight Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Howse Bennett of Murfreesboro; daughters, Betty Bennett (Miles Brian) Lane, Mayme Bennett (Bill) Hickman and Judy Bennett (Jack E.) Gritton; sisters, Frances Todd and Elizabeth Williams; six grandchildren, Jim Ed Lane, Beth Lane, Rebecca Lane, Kallie Gritton, Evans Gritton and Elizabeth Hickman.
Chapel service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Rev. Joe Elliott, Rev. Al Lyons and Rev. W.D. Thomason officiating. Burial at Republican Grove Cemetery will follow with Jim Ed Lane, Evans Gritton, Jimmy Todd, Ronnie Todd, Tommy Todd, Jeff Todd, Eddie Jernigan, Johnny Howse, Don Odom, John Todd and Mickey Hopkins serving as Pallbearers.
