Joseph S. Stephenson, age 76 from LaVergne, TN, died at home on September 8, 2012 after a long battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
He was born August 29, 1936 in Chehalis, WA. He was the son of George and Josephine (Jackson) Stephenson. He was the oldest of four children: two brothers, Larry (deceased), Bob and a sister, Jeanette.
He married Nola (Cherry) on August 24, 1968 and they were married for 44 years. He attended school in Castle Rock, WA. He worked and retired from the Longview, WA school district after 24 years. He lived in Castle Rock, WA; Kelso, WA; and Longview, WA before moving to Tennessee in 2003 to be with his family. He attended the Smyrna church of Christ in Smyrna, TN where he was a member.
His hobbies included reading, fishing, camping, woodworking and working with his hands. He was known by most that he could fix almost anything. He was always up to the challenge. He was devoted to his family. He had a great sense of humor and a smile that was contagious. He loved to tease and was a great practical joker.
He is survived by his wife, Nola of LaVergne, TN; and his three daughters, Melissa Davis of Murfreesboro, TN, Kendall Curtis (John) of Smyrna, TN and Angela Stephenson of Longview, WA. He has three grandchildren, Andrew Curtis, Gracie Curtis and Jaden Davis, who know him as "papa".
Instead of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
No Memorial service has been planned as of yet. We want to thank Tennessee Oncology, Alive Hospice; our family from the church of Christ at Smyrna, and friends and neighbors.
