Nancy Walker

Nancy Gail Woody Walker, age 77, former co-owner of General Trucking, co-founder of Haulers Insurance, and resident of Columbia, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Louis Johnson and Rev. Chip Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 222 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401.

The Mount Pleasant native was the daughter of the late James Everett Woody and Lottie Sowell Woody. She was a 1954 graduate of Hay Long High School and attended Middle Tennessee State College. Mrs. Walker was very active in the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities, James K. Polk Association, and local government for several years.

Her favorite pastimes include going to the beach and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a former member of Columbia State Community College Foundation Board and an active member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband whom she married August 26, 1955, James Hoil Walker of Columbia; daughter, Dr. Lottie Walker of Franklin; son, Cliff (Rhonda) Walker of Franklin; grandchildren, Emma Kate Walker, George Walker and Walker Jones all of Franklin; sister, Gloria (Doug) Vaughn of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Teresa (Clinton) Gilbreath of Culleoka, Pam (Allen) Kincaid of Decatur, Alabama, Houston (Sherry) Vaughn of Nashville and Mike (Sharon) Vaughn of Culleoka.

Active Pallbearers will be George Walker, Walker Jones, Tommy Turrentine, Ronnie Shacklett, Terry Johnson, Houston Vaughn, Mike Vaughn, Butch West, Kevin Dransfield and Travis Jones. Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Cummins Couch, Dr. Eslick Daniel, Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. John Dixon, Jimmy Cranford, Bob Cranford, Judge Bobby Sands, Judge Jim T. Hamilton, Judge Bob Jones, Tom Hardin, Van Boshers and members of Hay Long High Class of 1954.

The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, (931) 388-4711
