Sue Jean Blythe Elam-Smith

Sue Jean Blythe Elam-Smith, age 76 of the Flewellyn community in Springfield, died peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 17th, at 6 o'clock p.m. in the chapel of Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Lenwood Nichols and Bro. Joey Jones officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 16th from 4-8 p.m. and again on Monday from 4 p.m. till the hour of service.

Mrs. Smith was born February 8, 1936 in Ripley, MS to the late Howard Columbus and Ethyl Spires Blythe. She was a retired nurse and a member of the Flewellyn Baptist Church, and affectionately known to many as "Ma Sue".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Herbert Smith, Sr., affectionately known as "Pa Herb"; son, James Bret Elam; and former husband, Morris G. Elam.

Survivors include sons, Morris Greg (Kay) Elam of Nashville, Alan Howard (Pandora) Elam of Phoenix , AZ; daughter, Suzanne Elam (Jeff) Reel of Nashville; step-son, Edward Herbert (Debbie) Smith, Jr. of Springfield; step-daughter, Nancy Smith Prescott of Clarksville; sisters, Helen (John) Long of Saltillio, MS and Nancy Adams of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Charles Bret Elam of Baltimore, MD, Andrew Greg (Naomi) Elam of Kailua, HI, Brooks Alan (Ashley) Elam of Cleveland, TN, Derek Reel and Jessica Reel, both of Nashville; great-grandson, Grayson Herb Elam of Kailua, HI; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
