John William Harrison

John William Harrison, age 88, died on Saturday, 5 January, 2013 while serving his last tour of duty at the Alvin C. York Hospice unit of the V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Harrison was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and served in the American Theater, as well as the ETO. A tank commander in the 113th Armored/744th Tank BN (light) and landed at Utah Beach, he participated in the Invasion of Normandy (D+24). From there, he pushed from France, to Belgium, to Holland, and then Germany. Victory in Europe found him in Olpe, Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in November of 1945 with the rank of Corporal. Mr. Harrison retired from National Linen Services with over 30 years of service.

Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann Johnston of Smyrna; six children, Sara H. Taylor of Calera, AL, John H. Harrison of Birmingham, AL, Julie H. (David) Wheeler of Normal, IL, Joseph D. (Ramona) Harrison of Nicholasville, KY, Janie M. (Ken) Blackwell of Nashville and Charles (Gena) Harrison of Murfreesboro; twelve grandchildren, Brandy Edgen Willis, Chris R. Harrison, John M. Harrison, Rebecca M. Harrison Roy, Matthew D. Wheeler, Joseph C. Harrison, John W. Harrison, Jennifer D. Harrison, Sina L. Harris, Mistee P. Harris, Lauren N. Harrison and Collin M. Harrison; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by both of his parents and five siblings.

His funeral was held in the Woodfin Memorial Chapel on Thursday, 10 January, 2013, officiated by Rev. Terry Campbell of Giles Creek Baptist Church. Burial was at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Pegram. Woodfin Funeral Chapels, www.woodfinchapel.com
