James Thomas "Jim" Cogdill, Sr.

James Thomas "Jim" Cogdill, Sr., age 82 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Sunday March 24, 2013.

A native of Buncombe County, NC, he was the son of the late Alvin and Bertha Kirkpatrick Cogdill. He was also preceded in death by a son, James T. "Jimmy" Cogdill, Jr., who died in 2011, and by his brothers, Jones, Ken, Charles, Warren and B. T. Cogdill, and by his sisters, Alene Plemmons, Sara Williams and Juanita Bishop.

Mr. Cogdill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sarah Jane Mallard Cogdill; son, Jeffrey Cogdill and his wife Susie of Murfreesboro, TN; dauaghter-in-law, Jolynn Lawson Cogdill of Naperville, IL; brother, Paul Cogdill of Ashville, NC; and by his loving toy poodle, Pee Wee.

A Celebration of Life will be 6 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 3013 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with Steve Plemmons and Ron Chilton officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Mr. Cogdill was a member of the Church of Christ and retired from the United States Air Force where he served from 1947 to 1967. Mr. Cogdill received his Air Force training at the Air University, United States Air Force, the U. S. Air Force Tactical Air Command Academy, and at the USAF Alaskan Air Command. Mr. Cogdill was also retired from the City of Murfreesboro where he was employed as a building official from 1968 to 1986, and was associated with the Southern Building Code Congress International and the Tennessee Building Officials Association where he served as Secretary-Treasurer of ten years.

Mr. Cogdill was a master wood worker, and enjoyed building grandfather clocks. After his retirement, he enjoyed repairing small engine equipment for family, friends and neighbors.
