Harold L. Dawley, 90, died January 25, 2014 at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Wichita. He was born on February 19, 1923 at Spearville, the son of Lloyd and Nettie (Hines) Dawley.
Harold was a graduate of Ford High School. He served in the US Army during WWII
where he received a purple heart
while serving in the European Theater. In 1948 he married Alice Williams in Dodge City. She preceded him in death on August 26, 1972. Harold worked for Rounds and Porter for many years and later for the Kansas Highway Department.
He was a member of the Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W
. of Dodge City
Harold is survived by a son, Johnny Dawley and wife Margaret of Pratt; grandson, Scott Dawley of Wichita; brother, Lawrence Dawley and wife Marylou of Wichita; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by is parents; brother, LeRoy Dawley; two sister, Dolores J. Corey and Cleota M. Rainbolt; and an infant daughter.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Clapham presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. and KSARNG Military Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. or Ford County Humane Society both in care of the funeral home.
