Michele Ann Doyle Krier, Ashland, Kansas, passed away on August 5, 2014 at Ashland Health Center, Ashland, Kansas after a long struggle with cancer. Born on November 24, 1961, in Southern California, she was 52 years of age. Growing up a military brat Michele attended schools all over the United States.
On May, 19th, 2001, George married the love of his life at St. Joseph's Church, Ashland, Kansas. Michele came to Ashland working with horses for the late Jesse and Duane Moorman on their ranch. She was also employed by the local grocer and was a title clerk for Clark County Abstract and Title Company. She transitioned to Ashland Health Center in 1999 where she worked as the insurance billing clerk to present.
Michele's community service included becoming an Emergency Medical Technician in 2003 and EMT Intermediate in 2005 and serving in that organization until 2009. She also joined George as a member of the Ashland Fire Department joining as support personnel then was voted on as a member in 2005. Taking an active role in the organization she held the office of secretary for 6 years. Michele became a state certified fire fighter 1 thru University of Kansas Fire Science program and started fighting fire squirting water off the back of truck 54 and gradually moving to driving a truck on the fire line. She could keep up with the best of the best when it came to fighting fire. In 2012, she was nominated for BPW Community Woman of the Year. She also was an active member in St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Another love in her life was Blue, her horse. Now Blue is probably on a better diet and stricter feeding regime than most kids and husbands including George. She became friends thru Facebook with other horse women enthusiasts from all over the United States and several other countries including Australia. They discussed diets and horse tips and genuine friendships have been formed. Blue has taken her from ranch riding with George, to pleasure riding with Khrista, to barrel racing at the Harper County Round Up Club, Buffalo, Oklahoma. In 2012 she earned the title of Reserve Champion in Timed Events and coveted the Grand Champion award in Timed Events in 2013 at the High Plains Horse Show, Dodge City, Kansas.
She and George have followed niece and nephew Kalee and Gus in their school activities and rodeo. They enjoyed family vacations together, river rafting and zip lining. The fire and church extended family kids have always had a connection to her also. She was loved by all. She always said she disliked kids and what is up with that!
