Carl Frederick Schriner, 87, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at his home in
Dodge City. He was born July 9, 1926 at Riverton, Nebraska, the son of Fred and Edna L. Goebel Schriner. There were 12 children in his family and he was raised in Franklin County, Nebraska and worked on the family farm until he joined the Army at the age of 18. He served with the 5th Calvary Regiment during WWII. A Dodge City resident since 1956, moving from Emporia, he was a foreman for Broce Construction for 45 years, retiring March of 1996. He was very proud of his family and their accomplishments.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, past Grand Knight and 4th Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955, Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714, American Legion and Moose Lodge 1187 all in Dodge City. On October 25, 1948 he married Arvella Baalman at Angelus, Kansas.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Dodge City; a son, Chuck, Dodge City; 4 daughters, Charlene Schriner and Patricia Adams both of Dodge City, Diana Grunder and husband Richard, Oldsmar, Florida and Karen Pitts and husband Vern, San Jose, California; 2 brothers, Raymond and wife Idela and Maurice and wife Beulah all of Dodge City; a sister, Alma Avery, Kearney, Nebraska; 4 granddaughters, Lana Winkler, Mandy Schnoebelen, Hannah Pitts and Chelsea Adams; 7 grandsons, Anthony Hamilton, Todd Hamilton, GySgt Travis Hamilton, Brian Schriner, Chad Grunder, Caleb Pitts and Richie Adams; 11 great grandchildren, Brett, Dylan, Sage, Jacob and Christian Hamilton, Brody and Rylee Schnoebelen, Brooke and Logan Winkler and Kelsey and Kolton Schriner; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters and a great granddaughter.
Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:00 pm Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Friday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with Fr. Terrance Klein presiding. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City, with military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and KSARNG. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Prairie or the Wounded Warrior Project both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
