Lester Michel "DaDoux" Alonzo

Alonzo, Lester Michel died Saturday 26th July 2014 at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge. He was 88. Born August 27, 1925, on Ascension Plantation, he was a life-long resident of Smoke Bend and a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. For most of the last five years he was a resident of Chateau D'Ville Community Care Center in Donaldsonville.

Visitation will be Monday, July 28, 2014, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Ourso Funeral Home, 134 Houmas Street, Donaldsonville and Tuesday July 29, 2014, 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, with Rev. Paul Yi, celebrant. Entombment will be in Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Donaldsonville, under the direction of Ourso Funeral Home, Donaldsonville.

He is survived by his sister-in-law of 69 years, Ida Mae Rome (Mrs. Earl P.) Alonzo, and nephew E. Paul Alonzo, Jr., niece Janet Kay Alonzo Fulmer and her husband, Kenneth R. Fulmer, Jr., great-nephew Tyler Paul Fulmer, all of Baton Rouge, as well as nephew and godson Dennis L. Alonzo of New Orleans.

He was preceded in death by parents Anatole Augustin Alonzo and Corine Falcon Alonzo, brothers Clarence Joseph Alonzo and Earl Paul "Bro" Alonzo, Sr., infant sister Marie Alonzo, first cousin and foster brother Davis J. Alonzo, grandparents F. Xavier Alonzo and Elise "Lize" "Mimi" LeBlanc Alonzo, and Jackson A. and Hermania "Tatoone" Dugas Falcon.

During WW II Lester served in the Marines. He retired from the Public Works Department of Ascension Parish. Until his health declined in recent years, he was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed hunting and taking care of his home and property. He was an honest and generous man.
