Dr. William Edmund Price, Jr., 90, died peacefully at his home in Rio Verde, Ariz., on Feb. 17, 2013. He was married for 60 years to Doris Brann Price of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
He was born Aug. 28, 1922, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to William Edmund Price, Sr. and Mary Grace Temple Price. Dr. Price received his early education in Oklahoma City, graduating from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1946. In the same year, he received a commission as Lieutenant Jr. Grade Medical Corps U.S. Naval Reserve. Later, he was accepted at Wesley Memorial Hospital for a rotating internship, an affiliation of Northwestern University
Medical School in Chicago, Ill. In 1948, he reported for active duty and was assigned to a Marine Corps Regiment as a Medical Officer. In 1949, he was separated from the Marines and returned to Chicago to start at three year residency in Urology. He later accepted a position as associate professor of Urology at the University of Minnesota
with Dr. C. Donald Creevy for two years. After, he joined a private practice in Minneapolis and continued there for 38 years, serving on five hospital staffs. In 1990, he retired and he and Doris wintered in Rio Verde, Ariz. and spent summers in Ephraim, Wis., where they have owned a beach cottage for over 50 years. He was a long time member of the Ephraim Historical Foundation, a board member for six years and spearheaded the walking tour program for 15 years. He was also a member of the Ephraim Yacht Club, the Door County Land Trust and the Ephraim Moravian Church, of which he dearly loved.
Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Described as a real gentleman, compassionate, sincere, very knowledgeable, with a warm smile. In his retirement years, he so enjoyed golf, tennis, and playing bridge with friends. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his four children, William E. Price III (Barbara Lynn), Maple Grove, Minn.; Jeff, Phoenix, Ariz.; Barbara, Savage, Minn.; Tom (Deirdre), Westport, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Sterling, Brenden, and Gemma. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
