Boland, Edward John

Edward John Boland 1924 - 2012, 88, Sister Bay Wis., (formerly of Oak Brook and Villa Park, Ill.) passed away peacefully at Scandia Care Center on Sept. 1, 2012. Ed was born on June 27, 1924, to John and Esther Boland. He was the beloved husband of Virginia V. (Gram) Boland for 67 years. Dear father of Sharon (Robert) Robinson, Susan (Tim) West, James (deceased) Karen Boland, beloved grandfather of Amy (Donny) Sepin, Bryan Lagerholm, Jeff Lagerholm, Kristen Garrity, Matthew (Brook) West, Michael Boland and Katie Boland. Beloved great-grandfather of 12. Preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Richard and sister, Eileen.

After graduating from Lane Tech High School in Chicago, he was employed at Marsh and McLennan Insurance Company and then enlisted in the Navy in 1941. He served in the Pacific during World War II as an aviation radioman 2nd class on the USS Enterprise. He received four air medals during his tour of duty and was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war, he returned to Marsh and McLennan and retired after 38 years of service as a Senior Vice President. Upon retiring to Sister Bay in 1981, he served his church and community in various capacities. He held positions on the Sister Bay Plan Commission, as a Board member of Scandia Village and in a variety of supporting and consulting roles at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sept. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Ellison Bay, Wis. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scandia Village Building fund or Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church.
