Goode, John E
The Guest Book is expired.
John E. Goode, 91, summer resident of Ephraim, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 8, after coping bravely and cheerfully with a progressive illness the last two years.
John was born June 23, 1922, in Menomonee Falls, Wis., the second child of Wesley and Kathryn Goode. He graduated from Menomonee Falls High School in 1940 and began college at Purdue University. He was called to service in the World War II armed forces in 1943, interrupting his college years. His service as an army lieutenant was stateside except for his last posting which was with the Army of Occupation in Japan. There he attained the rank of captain. After discharge, he returned to Purdue and graduated in 1947, with a degree in mechanical engineering. His business career began at Northern Paper Mills in Green Bay, and from there he served as a Vice President of American Can Company. During that time, he raised his family in DePere, Wis.
His work through the years was almost all, although not entirely, within the paper industry. He also served as a consultant to, and on the boards of, several Fox Valley companies. He was also a trustee of Lawrence Univeristy.
John is survived by his wife, Margot; his daughters, Barbara (Lyle) Lundquist and Susan (Stephan) Pfeifer; his son, John (Carla) Goode; his sister, Janet Gard; and his five grandchildren, Molly and Dana Bumpus, Erich (Barbara) Pfeifer, and Elizabeth (Adam) Simons, and Katherine Goode. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Lorraine Goode.
Margot's two children and four grandchildren also felt blessed to be a special part of John's life.
John was admired, loved, and respected by all who knew him.
John will be buried in Blossomburg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park. Interment will be private. A celebration of John's life will be held on Tuesday, August 20 at 11 a.m. at Blossomburg Cemetery. All who thought of John as a special friend are welcome. Please bring a lawn chair.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Scandia Village for their kindness and loving care of John in the last three weeks of his life. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Scandia Village in memory of John E. Goode (Scandia Village Capital Campaign Fund 10560 Applewood Road, Sister Bay, Sister Bay, WI. 54234).
