Lowell Stener Johnson, 78, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on May 19, 2012, in Fond du Lac. He was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 8, 1934, to Carl and Christine (Stenerson) Johnson. Lowell attended schools in Milwaukee and graduated from Nathan Hale High School. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1955-1957. While in the army, he developed his life-long love of travel because of visiting Seoul, Tokyo, Seattle, New York, and many areas of the southwestern United States.

Following discharge, he attended Michigan College of Mining and Technology where he received a degree in geological engineering. He later earned a Master's degree in water resources management from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Lowell worked for the US Bureau of Reclamation on water projects in Utah and Colorado; for the Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha as Assistant Chief of the Public Water Supply; for the Wisconsin DNR in Madison; and with the Green Bay firm of Foth and Van Dyke for 17 years as a water supply engineer where he designed municipal water systems. He retired in 1995 and moved to Sturgeon Bay where he resided until his death. Lowell is survived by cousins and special friend, Nola Metz of Fond du Lac.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with the Rev. Tim Malek officiating. Burial will be on Thursday at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. Friends may call on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Coventry Unit at Dorchester and to Bay View Lutheran Church. The Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (www.forbesfuneralhome.com).
