Tlachac, Giles A.

Giles A. Tlachac, 79 years, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Thursday, (February 6, 2014) at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay with family at his side.

Giles was born August 2, 1934 in Kewaunee, County, the son of the late John and Ella C. (Andre) Tlachac. He graduated from Algoma High School in 1952 and served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Yuma, AZ until October 1956. On May 16, 1959 Giles married Nancy Woller at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in a picturesque castle in Tuscany, Italy.

Giles was a member of Union Local 1146 for over 45 years. He spent most of his life in the construction business as a carpenter and foreman. First employed with Wayne Burr, Giles then worked for O.M. Construction and later DeCoster Construction of Green Bay until his retirement in 1998. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Giles enjoyed football games, camping, and traveling. He was a Packer ticket holder for over 50 years, and loved sharing stories about freezing at the "Ice Bowl" with his wife Nancy. Giles was a kind, generous, loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his brothers and their families very much. He was always there for others who needed a hand. A flat carpenters pencil was always behind his ear, and woodworker's apron tied to him with a level and square not far away as he loved to work at his woodworking projects. He created the most beautiful potting benches, tables, birdhouses and various other wooden furniture. The remodeling of Cana Island Lighthouse in Baileys Harbor shines as a beacon of his skilled craftsmanship.

Survivors include his dear wife of 54 years, Nancy of Sturgeon Bay; four children, Craig (Donna Tipler) Tlachac of Vista, CA, Paula Tlachac-Gardner of Redondo Beach, CA, Anthony Tlachac (fiancé, Jill Radtke, and her daughter, Haylee) of Eau Claire, WI, Ann (Luigi) Valsangiacomo of Switzerland; grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler and Justin Tlachac of Vista, CA, Hana Gardner of Redondo Beach, CA, Luca and Massimo Valsangiacomo of Switzerland; two brothers, Adrian (Millie) of Carson City, NV, and Donald (Dorothy) of Sturgeon Bay.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Ella Tlachac; two sons, Joseph and Peter; brother, Bernard Tlachac of Green Bay; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Eugene and Sally Ewaskowitz, Stan Woller all of Sturgeon Bay; and nephew, Michael Tlachac of Carson City, NV.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 15, 2014) at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday (February 14, 2014) at Huehns Funeral Home, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. A parish wake service will be held Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Sunshine House in remembrance of their son Peter Tlachac. Also a memorial fund will be set up for Crossroads at Big Creek.

We would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and doctors and facilities at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center for their kind and compassionate service to us for the past three weeks as they cared for Giles and our family. For Fr. Tony and Fr. Bob Stegmann for their anointings, and for all those who kept us in their hearts and prayers.
