Hanson, Bruce Russell

Bruce Russell Hanson, 69 of Ellison Bay died on March 12, 2014. He was born on November 21, 1944 to Russell and Virginia (Kramer) Hanson.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Bonnie and his daughters, Paula Hanson of Sturgeon Bay; and Heidi Wilkins of Denver, N.C.; as well as grandchildren, Austin, Samuel and Avery. Also survived by his mother, Virginia and sisters, Cheryl (Gene) Olson and Vicky Hanson, all of Ellison Bay; nieces, nephews, cousins; aunt, Verna Anderson of Sturgeon Bay; uncle, Willard Kramer of Sister Bay; brother-in-law, Jeff (Janice) Bateman; and had many good friends and was loved by all.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Hanson; infant brother, Ned; and grandparents, Albert and Ella Hanson, Melvin and Mabel Kramer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Murrell and Dorothy Bateman.

He attended Ellison Bay Grade School and graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1962. Bruce joined the U.S. Navy in August 1962 and graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Base. He served 3 years on the Ship U.S.S. Merrick and the 4th year of service he was stationed on a Land Base in Da Nang Vietnam.

Bruce worked at Peterson Ship Builders in Sturgeon Bay for 20 years and later started his own maintenance business. One of his hobbies was raising cattle which he enjoyed very much. He was a member of the VFW and the Color Guard. Also he was a member of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church.

Memorial services will be conducted at Shepherd of the Bay Church at 11 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Casperson Funeral Home, Sister Bay is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund is being established and the family will find an appropriate use that honors these memorials.
