Dorla Cihlar Obituary
Cihlar, Dorla Marie (Quam)

Dorla Marie Cihlar, 84, of Sturgeon Bay, fell asleep and awoke in the loving arms of the Lord, late Saturday night, April 12, 2014, at Anna's Healthcare.

The daughter of the late George and Ethel "Lillian" (Thornton) Quam was born December 2, 1929, in Sturgeon Bay. Dorla attended Silverdale School and Sturgeon Bay High School. Her work included waitressing at the Hilltop, where she met Paul Francis Cihlar, her husband-to-be. Paul and Dorla were married on April 19, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay.

She also worked at a bakery for a short time and waitressed at Leathem Smith Lodge, then worked at Door County Memorial Hospital as an LPN. Dorla did bookkeeping for Paul's Construction business and also for C & G and Gilson Construction. Upon retirement, Dorla and Paul picked up a paper route for the Press Gazette for a few years. After that, she volunteered on a regular basis at Paul's Pantry in Green Bay and did cleaning at night for Wave Point.

During her life, Dorla loved creating art - rosemalling, stained glass, painting, and pottery. She was an avid seamstress and made many of her own clothes throughout the years. Dorla liked traveling throughout most of Europe, New Zealand, and most of the United States. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Dorla also enjoyed picking Asparagus and bowling in leagues at Worley's Lanes. She belonged to Catholic Daughters of America.

Dorla will be missed by her daughter, Deborah (Henry, Jr.) Gilson; son, Randall Cihlar; six grandchildren, Paula (Damien) Cihlar Evans, Jason Cihlar, Henry "Joe" Gilson III, Jeff Gilson, Ricky Cihlar (Autumn Hirthe), Krisann (Tom) Gilbertson; eight great-grandchildren, Henry "Joe" IV, Antonio, Maya, Elena, Sophia, Madden, Arya, Corvin; brother, George Quam; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

She was welcomed Home by her parents; husband, Paul; son, Denis Cihlar; three sisters, JoAnn Worley, Betty Pavlik, Judy Ceglske; and brother, Richard Quam.

A private family funeral service was held at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Carl Schmitt officiating.

Dorla will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery.
