Peeters, Paul J.

Paul J. Peeters, 61, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Friday evening, April 25, 2014, at U.W. Hospital in Madison after complications following his lung transplant last December and his long battle with IPF.

He was born November 3, 1952, in Neenah, the son of the late Paul M. and Mona E. (Schultz) Peeters. Following his graduation in 1971 from St. Mary's High School, Paul received his Bachelors at UW-Stevens Point in 1975, before pursuing his Masters in Fisheries Biology, and graduating from South Dakota State in 1978.

Paul married Marcia M. Walbrun on August 24, 1974, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menasha. He worked for the State of Wisconsin as a Fisheries Biologist at various locations including Brule, Two Rivers, and Sturgeon Bay before retiring in 2010.

Paul's interests included hunting, photography, skiing, traveling, and his dogs. He loved Lake Michigan and fishing on his boat, the Lorax. Paul was passionate about his career, fishing, and most of all, his family. He will be deeply missed by friends and family. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."

His family includes his wife, Marcia of Sturgeon Bay; two children, Matthew (Molly) Peeters of Appleton (and their children, Lauren and Hannah), Karen (Josh) Vanderloo of Madison (and their son, Miles); two brothers, Carl (Sharon) Peeters of Niles, MI, Thomas (Dawn) Peeters of Neenah; many close cousins; and other extended family.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; and teen brother, John.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Paul's life will be held from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club. Refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may made in his memory and sent to Marcia Peeters, 407 N. 12th Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.
