Roger Ash Obituary
Ash, Roger

On June 8, 2014, God called Roger R. Ash to his eternal home. Roger was born in 1922, in the family farmhouse in Sevastopol, WI. After graduating from Sevastopol High School he attended trade school with his brother Al, after which they moved to Milwaukee, where Roger met his future wife.

Roger served his country during WWII with the 101st and 82nd Airborne and was awarded the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, two Overseas Service bars, and the Army Occupation Medal.

In 1947, Roger married Millie Diedrich, who preceded him to heaven in 1997, after 50 years of marriage. Roger and Millie shared the love of music, playing in several groups in their retirement years.

In 1960, the David White Company/Realist, Inc. moved from Milwaukee to Berlin, WI. Roger had already worked for the company for 20 years, so he and Millie and their daughter Su, relocated to Berlin. After 43 years with Realist, Roger retired.

He was always available to help in his neighborhood or at Grace Lutheran Church, where he served for many years as an usher and on various committees. In addition to making music on accordion, harmonica, guitar, banjo and drums, Roger also enjoyed gardening. His flower-bordered vegetable garden was a joy to behold. He also spent many happy hours fishing with good buddies, including his son-in-law Mark.

Roger relocated to Mark & Su's home in Lake Geneva in May of 2007. He joined Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington where he served as a greeter, along with Mark and Su. He also participated in monthly music jams at the Burlington Senior Center and enjoyed summer concerts by the Burlington Kiwanis Civic Band.

In October 2011, Roger moved to Walnut Grove Assisted Living in Lake Geneva, where he played music with his daughter, Su, once a month for the residents.

He will be greatly missed here on earth by his sister, Doris; sister-in-law, Marion, and daughter, Su (Mark) Gustafson along with nieces, nephews and friends. Others preceding Roger to heaven include his parents; brothers, Marvin, Merton and Aldred; sister, Exilda; sisters-in-law, Violet and Lucille and brothers-in-law, Milton and Dick.

Memorials in Roger's name will be directed to the Burlington Senior Center and the Burlington Civic Band.

A Memorial Service for Roger will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Huehn's Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Carolyn Sellers officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, July 31st from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
