Daniel P. Hyde, 63, La Crosse, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center after a long courageous battle with MS. He was born April 3, 1950, to David and Marvel (Arentson) Hyde. Dan Graduated from Aquinas High School and the University of Notre Dame, where he played an active role in Student Government.
Daniel spent many years in marketing, communications and sales and travelled extensively while working at Trane Co. He eventually moved to Door County, where he wrote articles for the Peninsula Pulse, Door County Journal and Green Bay Press-Gazette. He also worked for Island Realty, Gills Rock Stoneware and the Washington Island Ferry.
Daniel's many passions included weekends racing cars at Elkhart Lake, ice racing on Lake Neshonic and being able to drive Formula Ford at the raceway in Salzburg, Austria. After moving to Door County, he chose a quieter life, where his hobbies included photography, assisting in the production of Passages, a radio program on WDOR and participating in several Peninsula Park Theatre productions.
Daniel loved life in Door County particularly Washington Island, which became his home.
Daniel is survived by his brothers, David and Mark of La Crosse; sisters, Ann Crowley of Houston TX; and Mary (Terry) Hoffmann of Minneapolis;and many nieces nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Betty Hyde; and brother-in-law, Phillip Crowley.
A celebration of Life was held Wednesday, May 29, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Myrick Hixon EcoPark. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Door County.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials are preferred for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Wisconsin Chapter, Aquinas High School or charity of your choosing.
The family would like to thank Dr. Momont and caring staff at Bethany St. Joseph for their excellent care of Dan. Also a special thank you to cousin Sally for her many visits and prayers for Dan.
