Katherine Parramore McLendon Katherine Parramore McLendon, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2013. She will join her loving husband of 72 years, John Wilmer McLendon. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Ledlow officiating. A private burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 2864 Brannon Stand Road, Dothan, AL 36305. Mrs. McLendon was born December 26, 1919, to parents Marion Parramore and Zellie Smith Parramore in Holmes County, Florida. She was 1 of 12 children. She and her husband were loyal members of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where they first met in 1938. She and Mr. McLendon were married on June 29, 1940. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Louise Williams, Lenora Chastain, Coralee Parramore and Ruby Parramore and seven brothers, J.D., Pastel, R.V., Auburn, Steve, Hulon and Paul; and one grandson, Matthew McLendon. Surviving her are her sons, James Wilmer McLendon of San Antonio, Texas and Bill McLendon of Panama City, Florida; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
