Fernando M. DiMaria Obituary
Fernando M. DiMaria formally of South Philadelphia, Southampton, PA, Brigantine, NJ, and most recently of Dover, DE, passed away Monday May 5, 2014 at Westminster Village, in Dover, Delaware. He was 94.

Mr. DiMaria was born December 2, 1919 in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Sebastian DiMaria and Nella Barattini DiMaria.

He honorably served in Germany as a member of the United States Army at the close of WWII. After the military he became a designer/draftsman working for companies such as Philco Ford, Hurst Performance and Brandt Systems. He served on design teams that saw innovations impacting nearly everyone in this country at some point in time, from the Minute Man rocket in the 1950's and 1960's, Philco television sets in the 1960's, the Hurst Jaws of Life in the 1970's and the Brandt currency counter in the 1980's.

Mr. DiMaria enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed flying planes, classical music, opera, the Jersey shore, casinos and fancy automobiles. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Southampton, PA and more recently a parishioner at the Church of the Holy Cross in Dover, DE.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Angeline DiMaria (nee Greco), in November 2010. He was also predeceased by a sister, Elda DiMaria of Philadelphia, PA.

He is survived by two sisters; Clara Bianco of Green Lawn, Long Island, NY, and Lea McDaniel of Edenton, NC; sons, Peter R. (Donna) DiMaria of Dover, David M. DiMaria of Gladwyne, PA; daughters, Frances J. (Matthew) Mesko of West Chester, PA and Joan E. (Vern) Leach of Newville, PA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call on May 13, 2014 from 10 to 11:00 am at the Torbert Funeral Home, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm at Church of the Holy Cross, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Catholic Charities.
