Gary Dale Brown Obituary
Gary Dale Brown, of Dover, passed away July 1, 2016, at Kent General Hospital, Dover.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1969 in Batavia, N.Y. A 1988 graduate of Dover High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1991. His service included tours in Hawaii; the 10th Mountain Division, Ft. Drum, N.Y.; Mogadishu, Somalia, three tours in Afghanistan, and Ft. Lee, Va. After basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C., Gary was posted to Ft. Drum from 1992-96, where he served with the storied 10th Mountain Division. He also served during Operation Restore Hope in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. Between, 1996-99, he was assigned to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, before being reassigned to Ft. Drum in 2000. In 2001, because of his outstanding military bearing, Gary was selected for Drill Sergeant School and assigned to Ft. Lee until 2003, when he was selected for Warrant Officer School at Ft. Rucker, Ala. After commissioning, he was reassigned to Ft. Drum as Property Book Officer.

He was then then assigned to multiple tours in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, Including Kandahar and Bagram, where he was responsible for more than $1 billion worth of equipment. Throughout his career, his wife Karen supported him through active involvement in military wives' leadership groups. In his final assignment to Ft. Lee, Gary was attached to the Wounded Warrior Program. He retired as a CW3 in October of 2011 and returned to Dover.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Karen; their three children: daughter, Kelsey McMahan, her husband Ryan of Eielson AFB, Alaska, and their children Bryson and Paisley; sons, Gavin and Nathan of Dover; Gary's parents, Ken and Nancy Brown of Dover; his in-laws, Dave and Roseann Skocik of Dover. Gary is also survived by his brothers, Mark of Tidioute, Pa., and Ken Brown Jr. of Seaford, and their children; Karen's siblings Drs. Eric and Mimi Skocik of Dover, and Kristin Glover and her husband Dennis of Independence, Ky. and their children.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 7, at Torbert Funeral Chapel (South), 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call from 12 until service time. Interment will be at a later date.

To help defray funeral expenses, instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alliance Family Fellowship, 34 N. Edgehill Ave., Dover, DE 19901 with Gary Brown in memo area.
