Jane Massey Draper Obituary
Jane Massey Draper, a long-time resident of Dover, passed away at home on May 13, 2016 with her family at the bedside. She was 84.

Born in Maryland on July 5, 1931, Jane received her undergraduate and law degrees from William and Mary. She was one of the first three women to graduate from law school at W&M. Jane went on to marry William Henry Draper Jr., Esq. , who pre-deceased her in 2008.

Jane is survived by her three children, Avery, Hannah, and Massey; her sister Maurleen; life-long friends Benny and Anne; seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. Jane exemplified the love and power of adoption. Her mother was adopted; Jane was adopted; she and her husband adopted three children; and three of her grandchildren are adopted. After a lifetime of searching, her birth sister found and re-connected with Jane, allowing them to enjoy a beautiful relationship for over 20 years. Her life confirmed that love of family includes and transcends biology.

Jane was a gracious and kind woman whose generosity was felt by many. She asked for little and gave much, quietly donating regularly to numerous charities that advocated for children, animals and the local police department. She will be dearly missed, but those who knew her are forever blessed with her memory and spirit of love, kindness and generosity.

Jane was a long-time volunteer for Delaware Hospice in Dover, which later cared for her husband and now recently for her until her passing. Memorial gifts may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711.

There are no funeral services; a small life-celebration gathering will take place on July 9 for family and friends.
