Jeanette Dawson Lister Obituary
Jeanette Dawson Lister, age 96, of Camden, DE passed away on Thursday evening, June 18, 2015. She born in Milford, DE on May 4, 1919 with the family soon moving to Camden. With the exception of some years in the 1950"s, Jean was a lifelong Camden resident. She lived in the same house on Camden-Wyoming Avenue for 52 years. In an era when not many women worked outside of the home, Jean was employed by Mr. Charles duPont Ridgley of Camden during the 1940"s and retired from the State Board of Health in 1981 after more than 22 years of service. As a member of the Dawson bus company family, she often drove school buses as needed, including the transport of German prisoners-of-war to an encampment located on the state fairgrounds in Harrington.

She was always quite particular about her appearance and well known for unique accessories that matched particular ensembles.
Notably she made earrings (by the dozens of pairs) and covered shoes from excess fabric. Her mantra was 'it had to match' and she wasn't 'dressed' without earrings.

Jean was a 1937 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and among its proudest supporters. She organized official class reunions and impromptu gatherings of local class members through a 70th reunion in 2007. She was a life-long member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Camden and active in the Roundtable Club of Wyoming-Camden and local Red Hats'.

Jean is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Pat, daughter Charlotte; sister-in-law-Jonnye Dawson; brother-in-law Paul Lister and three generations of nieces and nephews. She was 'Aunt Jean' to many.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Oscar and Nettie Dawson; sister, Margaret (spouse Elbert Saunders), brothers - Dem and Bill Dawson (spouse Lillian), husband – Charles; daughter – Deborah Kesselring and son-in-law – Frank Cranston. She and Charles celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to his passing in 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 25, 2015 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00am at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue in Wyoming, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main St., Camden, DE 19934.
