Lori Jean Miles Short Obituary
Lori Jean Miles Short of Wyoming passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, after a long illness. She was 50.
Lori worked for Kent County's code and enforcement division for 12 years. She was a lifetime member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Department, Station 41, where she had served as secretary and Ladies Auxilliary past president. She had logged many volunteer hour also, especially when calling bingo.
Lori was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge 1546, the Camden-Wyoming Pool League and T.O.P.S. She loved horses, going to the beach and fishing.
She was a big NASCAR fan, her favorite drivers being the Earnhardts, Dale Sr. and Jr.
Lori enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Jeeps and listening to rock & roll and country music, one of her favorites being "Fancy," by Reba McIntire. She liked to watch football, especially her Redskins.
Lori was a very giving person, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Shepherd, who died in 2008.
Lori is survived by her parents, Harold and Nita (Sparshott) Willey, with whom she resided; three sisters, Iona Zellman of Magnolia, Sherry Dowgos of Marydel and Candace J. McGuckin of Dover; three brothers, L. Robert Shepherd of Oxford, N.C., Larry W.Shepherd of Clayton and Joseph J. Miles of Wyoming; 10 nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Pippin Funeral Home Inc., 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., in Wyoming, where family and friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park in
Dover.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Letters of condolences can be sent via pippinfuneralhome.com.
