Willie Edgar Jones was born on Nov. 17, 1940, in Robstown, Texas. He was the fourth child born to Jeanette Tipton Jones and Willie Henry Jones. Willie was preceded in death by his siblings, Lawrence, Lorena and David. He is survived by an older sister, Frances Oakes Wiley, of Robstown, Texas.

Willie graduated from Robstown High School in 1958. In 1961, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably in numerous positions throughout his 20-year career. He retired from the United States Air Force at Dover Air Force Base in May, 1981, have achieved the rank of master sergeant superintendent loadmaster. While still serving his country, Willie earned a bachelor's degree at Delaware State College in 1982. Two years later, he earned another bachelor's degree from DSC. He also completed several courses in the doctoral program at Temple University in Pennsylvania.

In January, 1985, Willie was employed as the civil rights compliance officer for the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). He retired from DelDOT in 2009 in the position of training administrator.

Willie was active in his community, participating in various community programs and efforts that included being candidate for the Capital School District Board of Education in 1999, mentoring ""children at-risk"" at Star Hill Elementary for four years and serving as a personal advisor to many who sought his professional guidance in the areas of civil rights compliance for minority businesses.
Willie was a very generous man who never hesitated to support any cause in which he strongly believed.

Willie was a dedicated Alpha Man since Dec. 8, 1983. He served as the president of Zeta Rho Lamda Chapter in Dover for two consecutive terms. He was an active member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church for 23 years, where he served on the trustee board more than 20 years.

Willie leaves to cherish his memory his adored and beloved wife of 39 years, Dr. Bobby C.; two sons, Tony (Maryann) of Macomb, Mich. and Jeff (Alice) of Wilmington, N.C.; two daughters, Karen of Dallas, Texas, and Kelley (George) of Dover; one sister, Frances Oakes Wiley of Robstown, Texas; six grandchildren, Justin (Ashley) Charlotte, N.C., Jessica of Atlanta, Ga., Brad of Fort Benning, Ga., Kristin of Macomb, Mich., and Savannah and Vivian of Dover; one great-grandson, Emerson of Charlotte, N.C.; in-laws, Sharon and Jerry Haith of Dover, Milton and Charlotte Carney of Felton, Warren and Charlotte Pinkett of New Castle, James and Joyce Bryan of Middletown, and Craig Caridine of Bowie, Md.; niece, Julia Haith; nephew, Michael Haith of Dover; special great-niece, Jalyn Haith; many other nieces and nephews who called Willie ""Uncle Bill;"" adopted children and grandchildren; the Alfaro family of Dover; godchildren, Nicole Bell and Christopher Downes, both of Dover, and Sydney Hunter of Harrisburg, Pa.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, 101 N. Queen St., in Dover. A celebration of life continued with a repast at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.
